VLBA RFI Bulletin 24: Roving Sands '99 Gears Up: Each year the combined forces of the US and NATO stage a 10 to 15 day series of war games throughout the eastern half of NM. The VLA and the VLBA-PT, VLBA-LA, and VLBA-FD sites experience a considerable increase in RFI during the time these games are going on, especially in P-band (90 cm, 328 MHz), L-band (20 cm, 1400 MHz), and (for VLBA sites) S-band (13 cm, 2300 MHz). Frequencies which are typically in heavy use during the games are listed below: 1357 MHz 1365 MHz 1369 MHz 1385 MHz 1393 MHz 1432.5 MHz In addition, the following 2 GPS frequencies may experience an increase in jamming activity during the games: 1227.6 MHz 1575.42 MHz Preliminary plans are underway for the scheduling of the 1999 Roving sands war games, a copy of that schedule is shown below: ********************************************************************** ROVING SANDS '98 "wheels-up" Preliminary schedule (in MST) June 18 through June 27, 1999 (Additional scheduling detail will be made available as we draw nearer to the dates.) ********************************************************************** To the extend that we are able, we should try to avoid observations at the above itemized RAJPO transponder frequencies during the in- air times listed above. Once the June schedule comes out in late May, I will cross-reference the Roving Sands schedule with the list of observations, and issue notices to the affected observers. Incidently, the NRAO, VLA & VLBA WWW sites now have this and other RFI bulletins on-line, as well as the latest L-band, W8 grayscale plots for the previous 60 or so days. Check them out, let us know
